ELLSWORTH AND BEULAH HEDRICK SCHOLARSHIP FUND Beulah and Ellsworth's children have created a scholarship to honor their parents. Ellsworth had a career that was typical of many of our distinguished teachers. He graduated from Talcott High School in 1935, attended Concord for two years and began teaching in 1937. His schools included River Ridge, Tempa, Davis, Griffiths Creek, Mt. View, Talcott, Crossroads, and Hinton High School. Many of those schools were, of course, one-room schoolhouses. Ellsworth's career was extraordinary in that he taught for 44 years. He taught science and history during his later years, and many of his students became "Golden Horseshoe" winners. Beulah (nee Garten) was raised in Tempa. She married Ellsworth in 1939 and became his greatest supporter. She was a full time housewife who took especial joy in both her immediate and extended family. Beulah and Ellsworth enjoyed 54 years of marriage. The scholarship created in their name is given to a student who is either a "Golden Horseshoe" winner, a strong social studies or science student. The recipient is to be chosen by the social studies and science faculty at Summers County High School. |
